I was so excited to have won the paperclip challenge, and while I thought maybe that meant a trip to somewhere exotic, I was equally as thrilled to find out my prize was to get to host the next mundane challenge. (You believe me, don’t you?) There were over 130 entries and being as wishy washy as Charlie Brown, I had no easy task in choosing only five out of the many wonderful entries. Voting will end on Friday, and the winner will be announced on Saturday. So without further ado, I would like to introduce the five finalists of the “jar” challenge: (drumroll please!)
I'm with @lyno : if I'm judging by the Mundane Challenge guidelines (The only rule; there can be no question the object of the challenge is the star), then it's
Oh, yikes, didn't mean to stir up any controversy. . .what I really meant was that they were all wonderful, but I thought the guidelines meant something specific. . .sorry for causing trouble!
I'm about to complete my first month of 365, so I am thankful and blessed to be in the top 5 regardless...
This jar is in my daughter's bathroom... I thought it was perfect for the challenge and a play-on-words from the guidelines. I appreciate everyone's support.
@lisjam1 hei, no worries! It is so hard to remember the rules for both the photographer and the jury, when such great ideas are around! This is a beautiful selection and I enjoyed the images.
Aww, Lisa, thanks for choosing my jar for one of the five! I appreciate all the effort that goes into these "contests" and enjoy the challenge of coming up with something unique and trying new things. :) @lisjam1
@jodimuli I love this site and appreciate all the effort people go to to make it such a good site and the above photos are all nice photos Joey but I still feel they do not meet the guidelines. The star of the mundane photo is meant to be the jar and only the jar.
@kjarn I am fine with the fact that you think I have made the wrong choices, but it makes me feel bad that the five finalists have to see negative comments when they deserve to just enjoy their fifteen minutes of fame. I'm not sure what purpose they serve.
@lisjam1 I'm sorry that you are now feeling bad, that certainly wasn't my intention and I have never said that you have made the wrong choices - you won a challenge and that gave you the right to choose the finalists and you have made your choices as I have . I think I was looking at it more from the angle of those who did meet the guidelines and maybe supporting them.
Thank you so much for appreciating all of OUR efforts. I enjoy all the challenges and viewing the diverse images, interpretations, and perspectives. I'm excited to be in the top five... THANK YOU for the compliment...THANK YOU for your time and consideration!
@lisjam1 This is a challenge for jar photos. I see five jar photos. What do we mundanely do with jars? We put things in them. Do jars serve any other purpose other than having things put into them? No. So that's pretty mundane, isn't it? Hmmm. Yep. Criteria met. Great job Lisa! There were so many to look through and choose from and you did a great job!
@5unflow3r Yes! And only by having something in jar are we made fully aware of the purpose and power of a jar -- which is to contain. I didn't know what 3 was because my jars do not say "Ball" on them.

While reading some of the remarks, all I could think of was Thumper (from Bambi) saying, "If you can't say something nice... then don't say nothing at all." Your comments are supportive and very much appreciated!
Lisabell, my hat's off to you and everyone who enters a Mundane challenge; you guys have all done a great job meeting the intent of why this challenge was created: to see photographic potential in every-day, mundane objects. People were forced to see jars in a different way. Many of the participants may have planned something out in advance, or planted their camera in front of a jar, taken a couple of shots, rearranged things, adjusted the light, added elements, etc. because they wanted to spice it up a bit. Every person who tagged a shot as mundane-jar did so after thinking about a jar as the subject, which got the juices flowing, and that's what these challenges are all about. I don't believe any of the shots you chose would exist if they weren't considered a jar first; and as winner of a previous challenge, you wisely used your latitude as the winner to choose your five; and I appreciate that! With everything, there will be others who don't see things the same way, and that's what makes this site great! We all just need to remember this and press on. I have long realized that what I find funny or interesting is most definitely different than how a LOT of other people feel. They may even voice their opinion about it, and I'm okay with that (as long as it's civil)!
So, I guess what I'm saying is, Carry On, you're all doing great! :)
@lisabell Thanks for including my "jar head" in the final voting. I completely agree with @@grizzlysghost (Aaron) regarding these Mundane Challenges. They make you view mundane objects differently and how you position them in a final post within an album is entirely up to the person posting. Think differently, be creative and have fun! My vote goes to #5!
