At one of the gorgeous stations on the iconic Carlisle-Settle line - the train passing through some of the north's most stunning scenery and the highest stations in England. The line was nearly mothballed as part of all the railway cuts but due to campaigning it was saved in the 80s and is now hugely popular with tourists, walkers and locals. Oh but my train was late ha ha.
Was up early to get cheese to take home from the Spar and deli and an early breakfast. Little White Bus took me back to Garsdale to wait for my late train to Leeds, but all good as the station has loos and a waiting room. Just managed to catch my connection to Sheffield though with minutes to spare.
Afternoon working in the Sheffield office before catching the train home to St Pancras. Dave had had a nightmare 3-hour gridlock journey home so I said I'd get fish and chips in. But somehow with both being tired, the gruesome wet weather and manipulating luggage as I tried to phone and let him know I was nearly there - we got into a snippy argument and didn't speak the rest of the evening.
3 good things
1. Trains. Who doesn't love a train especially with great views?
2. Vegan BLT brioche from the coffee shop round the corner from the Sheffield office - my new favourite lunch.
3. Our arguments don't last long.
Campaigning does work! These stations and the railway line was definitely worth saving. We are heading that way in late June by train so looking forward to the sights
I am glad the railway was saved. Must be a lovely journey across Yorkshire dales. what a shame about your evening - these things happen when we are tired.
A beautiful shot of this lovely station on the Settle and Carlisle railway - fav! It is a super place for walking, with some great routes from the station. Did you see the statue of the dog Ruswarp on the southbound platform? He signed the list of those objecting to the closure of the line by placing a paw print!
Gorgeous station on that fab railway line! Love the red doors!
Sounds like a heck of a day!
