Day 24 Grand Canyon Rim to Rim Trip: Santa Rosa State Park NM

Wednesday, November 2.
It was another chilly Colorado morning and the temperature was just above freezing. The sunrise was very pretty as I prepped the trailer to depart Mesa Verde RV Resort. As I pulled onto Hwy. 160 at 7:30 am I glanced at Mesa Verde National Park and the warm glow of sunrise blanketed the mountains… so pretty. It didn’t take long to get to Durango and the view coming into the city was mountain upon mountain upon mountain… just stunning. I noticed portable signs giving warning that a winter storm was approaching. I’m glad I was heading south to stay out of the snow that was coming their way.

The drive today was 368 miles and a pout 2/3 of it was on larger highways but not interstates. I hit a construction slowdown just before reaching Albuquerque but it was smooth sailing after that. I’ve found the Gas Buddy app to be beneficial to finding lesser expensive diesel fuel on the road. Today is saved me about 60 cents a gallon… substantial! I arrived at Santa Rosa State Park at 3 pm and had time to hike the Lakeshore trail. There were a few cottonwood trees that were resplendent in their autumn golds. Sunset arrived just after I finished dinner and dishes and it was intense and pretty. I can hear cows mooing in the distance. I don’t remember that from camping here last February. I worked on some photos and posted a few things. It is really difficult to keep up with shooting, editing, and posting but I have been trying to do so. Good night… it has been a full day.
A nice shot of the river with the yellow in the foreground and further along. What a full day you've had! Sleep well!
