100 Strangers : No. 1 : Malcolm by phil_howcroft

100 Strangers : No. 1 : Malcolm

This is my next project to push my photography a little further. 100 Strangers. There is a 100 strangers group over on flickr and I've joined it to do the project with other 100 strangerers

This is Malcolm, he is a volunteer at the Bestwood Winding Engine House Museum at the disused Bestwood Colliery Coal Mine

Malcolm gave my wife, Ruby (yes our whippet came too) and 5 other people a guided tour of the Victorian Winding Engine House.

Malcolm used to work at the pit and started as an apprentice in 1961. He was a very knowledgeable guide, talking enthusiastically about the pit, the winding house and the beauty of the Victorian engineering.

As the tour finished I asked him if I could take his photo. As you can see by his smile, he was happy to do so.
Nice pic!

American humorist Will Rogers said. "I never met a man I didn't like.' From the feel of your photos, Phil, I think I would say you are the English Will Rogers!

Ah, I'm working backwards today viewing your shots and here's the first portrait in your new series. Full of character and a nice smile too. I'm a bit tempted to join you in this - but I might take too long - 100?!!

I dropped Jinks off at the vet yesterday and lurked in the market town of Bishops Waltham but thought nobody looked a likely candidate! btw what exactly is your definition of 'stranger'.
September 9th, 2015
@quietpurplehaze I would say "someone you don't know or haven't been introduced too'. I see the same faces at the football but I don't know them or talk to them (so they are strangers) , I see neighbours who I don't know (but cannot call them strangers) , work colleagues are not strangers. The definition is tricky, but then again it is your rules. I am hoping to get a shot at the weekend footie , I may have seen the person outside the stadium before, but they are not a friend, i've never spoke to them or know their name, so they are grit game in my eyes :-)

@phil_howcroft

Yes, agree it's a bit tricky but I think have broadly the same guidelines as you -thanks!
