Circle of Life

Earlier this morning I watching a pesky squirrel drinking from one of the bird baths in the garden. It had it’s back to me, more importantly, it also had it’s back to the gap between the house and the garage.

Not sure who was most surprised, me or the squirrel, when it was struck like an absolute thunderbolt from behind by our resident Sparrowhawk and smashed to the ground slightly behind one of the Maple trees and a Hellebore. I saw the Sparrowhawk chop down on the squirrels neck with his beak and then, suddenly, I guess something disturbed him, he flew off leaving behind the murder victim.

I’ve just disposed of the body, but not before photographing the magnificent texture of his tail.

Thank you for your views, comments and favs on yesterday’s offering. Much appreciated.
What a dramatic event. Loved the writing as much as the photo. I do like the details in the photo. I think you have given the squirrel a very nice memorial with this photo.

Wow!!! What a thing to have witnessed. Should you have left it there for the hawk or would it not have returned?
