an invitation to a ball by summerfield

an invitation to a ball

little wahoo has been so excited the whole day. why? because she has been invited to go to a valentine's ball. and she has already chosen her costume: she will be a butterfly.

little wahoo has been watching a program about butterflies and she is quite interested in them. she has seen the transformation of a butterfly from an ugly caterpillar to a mysterious cocoon and finally to a beautiful, colourful and elegant butterfly.

when grandmere summerfield arrives from work, little wahoo excitedly tells her about the invitation. grandmere is quite happy for little wahoo so she accompanies her to the store to find a suitable butterfly costume, even though it is snowing hard and the wind is blowing quite strongly.

little wahoo chooses a muted mauve butterfly costume. when they come back home, grandmere temporarily ties a thread around little wahoo's shoulders to check its fit. to both their surprise, it fits perfectly on little wahoo.

the valentine's ball is not until the fourteenth of february, but little wahoo wants to be prepared early for it.

"do you think i should wear my tiara, grandmere?" she asks.

grandmere shakes her head in amusement. "no, a butterfly does not wear a tiara, little wahoo.

"but i want to be a little bit sparkly!" say little wahoo.

"well, we can put some glitter glue on your wings then you will be sparkly."

little wahoo ponders and decides she likes grandmere's idea. she prepares for bed with a smile on her face and dreams about the shoes she will wear to the ball.
Awww....what a lovely story and how on earth did you get the lighting just on Wahoo and the wings? ! I cannot wait to see Wahoo on Feb. 14.

Oh..this is the most fantastic shot yet! What a great job you did with this one. So delicate against the black background. I don't how you did this, but the lighting is just perfect. You have a great eye for the unusual and the beautiful, summerfield. Wahoo should be proud of grandmere. :)

@espyetta - just the normal lighting of the room coming from behind me. it's probably the dark blue background makes the flimsy costume standout. i think part of my arm shadow is on the top of the right wing. does that make me a right winger? hehe! thank you, MB.

@karenann - i'm wearing glasses tonight, that's probably why. hahaha! thank you, karenann.
