past hobbies

i have had hobbies or activities that partner was not interested in. like i wanted us to take up ballroom dancing because it's a 'couple' sport. he just wanted to go dancing but heavens his dancing is horrible. elaine bennett (of seinfeld) was a better dancer than him. he wasn't thrilled when i started writing and joined a writing group and enrolled in writing classes. he thought i was having an affair with my writing mentor so i told him my mentor was gay. he snickered when i did crafts, as i was spending money and not getting a return for what i made even when i started selling them. he just was not interested in what i wanted to do and yet he wanted us to do things together.

when i started my photo blogs, his reaction was "another hobby?". then i discovered 365 and he didn't like that i was spending more and more time in it. but when he saw some of my photos, it must've changed his mind, especially when last year, in june, i embarked on a month-long project of taking a photo of the CN tower from different vantage points of the city. from then on, he was on the lookout for it wherever he ended up during his deliveries. or would find murals or parks where he thought i would be interested.

he didn't like the photos last night because of that big building in the middle of the shot, plus the boat scraps in the fore right. so tonight after supper, he said he will take me to a place where i can take an unobstructed view of the city's skyline. so we drove to humber bay park, 15 kilometres west from home, and did we get a view! however, maybe it's from tension, or the cold, or maybe the camera does not want to work in the cold weather but i was getting frustrated because i can't seem to get a good focus. then partner pointed to the water - our shadows were reflected on the water just below us. so i took a few shots and this one came out quite well. so there, we have an official portrait together. :-)

i don't quite know how to approach this segment of the challenge so i'm doing a bit of deviation.
I love the shot and blends great with your story, I am so glad you told it. Tell your partner that doing something you want to do, he does not have to like it. That is called give and take. Men sometimes think doing something together, means doing something they like...At least you got him hooked on 365 with you.

@sarasdadandmom - thank you, terry. i think that he has realized that now. also it may be because i listen to his input or opinion more often, especially when he says "it's better to take a shot from here", etc. that way he has more involvement.

@summerfield mine does that too, but he is a foot taller than me, and his view sometimes does not match my view of the same thing.. LOL>. and so cool that he is an "honorary" 365er.. love the official together portrait.. very mysterious!!

@cheribug - mine's also at least a foot taller and sometimes get frustrated that i don't see what he sees. sometimes i indulge him and say, "oh, yeah!" i'd take a shot and show him exactly what i see and only then he'd understand my pov is lower. hahahaha! thank you, my cheribug, glad you like the official portrait. i have to convince him again to play dress up so i can take a real official photo.

Such a cool shot and the story behind it is just wonderful. It's so great when one's other half is supportive. My husband encourages me to push my limits and get outside of the box!

@salza - yay for the husband who gives encouragement! thank you, sally.

Fabulous shot and story; it looks darn cold mind

Gotta dash, but just have to ask if our husbands are related!! They sound identical although mine's still not on board with this latest hobby!

Cool shot - and I love the story behind it :) So glad that your other half finally decided to participate in one of your hobbies! :)

@claireuk - thank you, claire. it wasn't so bad as the other night though, especially once the clouds lifted, but being near the water, yes it was a tad cold. i was wearing my bulky winter jacket just to make sure i don't get real chilly.

@alia_801 - thank you, alia. it may also be that he's motivated more now after we've sold three of my photos for just under five hundred dollars; he sees some potential for an extra income, that's probably why. he's planning to ask his daughter and her fiance, who own a restaurant, to have my photos displayed, so we're setting aside the money to pay for the special printing and framing.

@jackie8 - hahaha! if your husband has scottish blood, then they are probably related. partner's progenitors came from old scotland about five generations ago. thank you, claire.

You did fine. It's really interpetation and whatever works to make your point clear for you is great. It's a good reminder that when we do find things we can share with our family and friends, it's so much more fun. Maybe a small camera of their own would be a fun holiday gift. ;-)

love this shot and, of course, your narrative. wow, three shots for just under $500? that is fantastic! i never should have given those dozen engagement photos away - mal is still mad about it.

@dmortega - thank you, dorrena. we do have small cameras here that are easy to use, but partner isn't inclined. he's contented to push me. :-)

@summerfield --- Then you are blessed by his support. :-)

@catsmeowb - thank you, camille. we spent more than a hundred on the framing for the three. but tell mal that you need to practice and as you get better, you will gradually charge a fee. i've done a couple of debut parties but i didn't charge as i they know i'm just practicing, but i have received inquiries as to what i will charge for the next ones. there was a wedding that i had to turn down. wedding i won't touch with a ten-foot pole, partner wanted me to, but i don't and won't. how are you feeling today?

@olivetreeann - thank you. ann.

@cscecil - he likes it only because he could see the possiblity of making some money on the side. i think the six hundred dollar sale we've made so far inspired him. :-)

@cscecil - thank you, CS.
