artist challenge #49 - in the style of Laurence Aberhart

saw this church in the middle of nowhere. it's still under construction, but it was quite a sight. from the highway, i spotted the cross on a golden orb that glistened in the bright sunlight so partner had to exit and there it was. this is a lot more opulent than aberhart's family methodist church but i shot this against the bright sun to get the same effect more or less. i'd have cloned out the nearest light standard on the right but i thought it lent perspective as to how far i was from this structure.

i would bet that in the coming months, i wouldn't be able to take this shot again as the parking lot and landscaping would have taken shape by then, so i was glad i got this shot. (update: please see comments below).

funny, but i've gone bone dry for ideas for the something me-march challenge that's why i'm posting an entry for the artist challenge.

(one of the final 6)
This was (or still is) a Czech church. It's been there forever, surrounded by farmers fields. The guy started to build it but ran out of money so it was never finished. Now, subdivisions are being built around it - called Cathedraltown homes.

@russianblue - wow, thanks for that info, kass. the structure was quite imposing and we wondered why there were no equipment around and the building's not quite done. that was just too bad, wasn't it? thank you, kass.

@espyetta - hahaha! it's like a beacon of light shining from above! i kid you, the gold was just glistening and i spotted it as we were driving down the highway. thank you, MB.

@summerfield The guy died before completing it. I think he spent over 10M and still didn't finish. Rob is Czech, that's why I know the background! ;)

It’s a pretty amazing building. Too bad it was never finished.

Gosh that is an interesting building :)

Incredible capture. Great love leading lines, composition and high key lighting. The horror movie fan in me is reminded of the movie "In The Mouth of Madness" lol

Great architectural capture and the stories that have been provided are quite interesting. It would sure be nice if the building were purchased and completed.

Great find

@summerfield Depending on the weather- Tuesday might be hard. If I can't get out I'm not sure what I'll do around the house "that I haven't done" before! And it most certainly will NOT involve a selfie!!

@olivetreeann - the ones i haven't done are those that seemed so easy. "something i like to wear" something i like to do at home "somewhere i go to eat". all no brainers but i'm coming up empty. i hear you on the selfie. i'm sick and tired of taking a pic of me, too! but you, i'm sure you'll come up with something. if all else fails, take the other challenge's bonus words. :-)
