It’s hard to believe that we’re at February 2nd already (Happy Groundhog Day to those who celebrate). Please take a moment to look back over your work in January and share a favourite or two, with a note to tell us what makes it special for you.
This time it’s easy for me, as I’m just back from a wonderful trip to San Francisco which had more photo ops than I knew what to do with. I have to say that this image from Muir Woods is my favourite. This place was soul-filling, and beautiful beyond belief.
I also really like this shot of the Golden Gate Bridge, as it has a bit of a twist on the usual.
I chose this shot, as it was my first time visiting Rotoroa Island, and catching a decent shot of the hard to photograph Tieke. Not technically a good shot, as I was shooting into the light, so didn't even realise it had a tree weta in its beak, until I processd it.
Two favourites for January both partly for the same reason: the lighting that I managed to set up. Additional lighting is for me a rather new skill that I am having fun practising.
My favorite of the month. A cool moment of happenstance when this beautiful bird posed for us. It flew off while I was grabbing my camera, but came back shortly after I was ready…. Just long enough for this shot. And hasn’t been seen since.
I had fun with this one because I liked the original shot and then tried some new processing tricks on it and liked that result too. This is the ETSOOI version.
I have so enjoyed getting back into 365! January was a great month for me - filled with lots of new experiences, but I think this ended up being my favorite because it was such a sweet little find!
It’s hard to pick a favourite but two stand out for me. This first is a result of finding the right light and composition and waiting until the right person entered the shot. As it was a parkade I didn’t have to wait long.
This second image was inspired by the work of street photographer Alex Webb. While not as dynamic as his images I still think it works on a number of levels and I was quite happy with the result.
@ljmanning I like both of your picks but especially the Golden Gate image. It is, as you say, a different look than most images I see of that iconic bridge. You have taken a much photographed tourist attraction and given it your own personal twist. Well done.
Without a doubt my favorite for January would be this owl. It's rare to see them and even more so for me to be able to get a useable picture. The light is usually bad or they are back in the trees with a bunch of branches across their face. I just looked over and there he was, an unobstructed view with late afternoon sun! Should have bought a lottery ticket too! :)
The sun came out when I was 58 floors above London
AND I got my ducks in a row with my first ever success at panning!
@brigette Such a lovely blast of colour
@30pics4jackiesdiamond The light is incredible, and I’m in awe of your panning
@allsop Practice is paying off, I’d say
@shutterbug49 Gorgeous! It could be a postcard.
@helstor365 Such a fun result!
@lsquared Wonderful shot. Flickers are really tough to catch!
@kjarn So much to celebrate! Wonderful family time.
@gardencat Such an artistic outcome.
@emrob Perfect silhouettes.
@princessicajessica An awesome capture of the power of winter.

@bluemoon A fabulous capture of this beauty! Definitely worth celebrating. I’m a little jealous.
@blueberry1222 Such elegant lines and fabulous tones.
