That isn't a photo for sale, but a mirror reflecting. The Fair in the Square is a huge annual fête-cum-street party in Highgate's Pond Square. Children's activities, stages of events from local performers, craft and bric à brac, and summer drink and street food stalls.
The sun shone mercilessly for it, hitting 30 degrees, but the huge plane trees provided a lot of shade and the threatened thunder storms never arrived. Had planned to go with mum, but she was feeling under the weather and it might possibly have been a bit much anyway what with the crowds.
Some WhatsApp excitement first thing with friends as we queued to get tickets for an anniversary concert/bal with a fave band in Belgium - Peter finally got in and secured us all tickets.
Went next door after to water their garden - Dave didn't struggle with the dodgy back door, but the roll-up hose was a little glitchy. Breakfast in the already hot garden.
I travelled over to mum's bringing her extra fruit, milk and drugs and went up to the fair on my own. Nice enough, but very busy and I think I prefer my fêtes a little more small and homespun. Had a very nice scone with jam and cream outside the church and some veggie duck bao buns.
3 good things
1. Stopped off at mum's after the fair, bringing her back homemade lemon victoria sponge and a foxy tea towel from the fair.
2. I worked out how to get the European Championship on the telly (via BT Sport's YouTube channel) so Dave was a happy bunny.
3. Sitting in the cooling garden reading and listening to the bees humming.
