AKA Sophie's birthday cake - we thought it looked a a weeny bit like the Olympic beacon, so it will have to do for my Olympic-themed photo today. But who cares - 6 (count them) gold medals today! 3 athletics with Ennis, Farah of course and also a long jump gold. Plus more cycling and rowing successes. None of which I saw as Sophie has no telly and would have thought it a bit of a poor show if we'd watched it rather than celebrate her birthday - she has a point.
Spent a lovely day visiting Kelmscott Manor, home of William Morris - full of gorgeous things, the bed he was born in (from Walthamstow of course), lovely tapestries designed and woven by him and his wife and daughters, furniture, ceramics and tiles - and a lovely flower garden. We also visited the church where he and his family are buried. William Morris had a little bit of an unfortunate time in this house though, as that louche, bad-boy artist and poet, and so-called friend of Morris, Rossetti carried on an affair here with Morris' wife Jane.
Drove back home for dinner, Anna having joined us - guacamole and nibbles, prawn and saffron risotto and some mackerel - then said birthday cake and cheese.
I gadgeted every now and then to keep everyone updated on the inordinate medal tally.
