panettone [pa-net-to-ne]

it's the last food and drink thursday.

terry @sarasdadandmom is going to love this. :-)

this i think is the italian version of the fruit cake. it is bread baked with lotsa delicious raisins and some candied orange rinds. the germans call theirs 'stollen'. and i love all three, except the stollen with the marzipan in the centre.

in any case, i love panettone. i usually eat it plain, but sometimes when i want to get fancy, i lather it with butter and eat it with thin slices of old cheddar. a cup of hot green tea or hot chocolate to complete the snack.

sometimes i forget i have this and it doesn't go bad (unless you see some colourful hairy stuff on it then don't eat it) and when it gets quite dry after a few weeks, i slice it thinly and then i make french toast. yummy!
Nice welcoming shot and your panettone sounds really versatile!
