something i like to listen to

sometimes, i like to listen to old songs. the old songs that have a story and moral lessons, or catchy tunes that make you drum the surface of anything with your fingers, or bob your head to the rhythm of the tune. the songs that make me feel good and remember my mother used to sing to us.

the singers of long ago had unique voices and style, when they sang like they're telling you a story and you just had to listen. these days, everybody just shouts at the top of their lungs; some might also have unique voices and style, but mostly they all sound the same - the tune, the lyrics, the music.

i very seldom turn on my radio now because there are no decent stations anymore that play good songs. so sometimes, i put on a CD, of classical music or subdued ballads. and yes, i own this doris day CD, found it at an antique shop a long time ago. i could've used another CD but this is the most colourful of the bunch.
Thank you for posting, it brings back memories listening the great ones with my Mom. I may have to pull out my turntable this weekend and play some of the old 78s she left me. Doris is on them. Again thank you for sharing.

Great pov, it is lovely to have a wonder down memory lane every now and again, (or when I am cooking and the iPod is at full blast)

this CD is beautiful just on its own, isn't it? great shot. music these days should be listed under new categories - like 'how to be obnoxious in rhthymn" or " you can't dance to this" and " warning: offensive to woman who don't enjoy being called HO's!"

Doris Day was my first favourite singer - my Dad bought me the LP "Love me or Leave me" (odd when you think I was very young). I loved it - wonder where it is now? Thanks for the memories. But i find a lot of today's music quite acceptable, though I sympathise with Camille.

Loved/Love her singing in The Glass Bottom Boat. I too rarely listen to commercial radio. I'd rather listen to tapes I've made of what I like. Good for you for taking the higher listening road!

@olivetreeann - i was at a loss as to what i was to post. how this came about last night were the words "it's magic" which partner had used about four times in different conversations. doris day's song "it's magic" quickly came to mind and next thing you know i was singing the song. partner was impressed because i knew the lyrics completely, and we started talking about the songs today compared to the songs of our youth. and next thing you know i was pulling CD's out of the shelf and this was too yellow to get ignored. but today, the idea well has really gone dry. thank you, ann.

I love Doris Day. Such happy songs.

@summerfield lol at myself Vikki because doing the two challenges together was nuts! My idea well is pretty low too and so far I think most of them have been a stretch. I think my biggest problem is that I am not an on the go person so the "Somewhere I" stuff gets pretty boring after a while. Oh well, I'll do the best I can!
