we found this old friend on saturday on our way to sarnia. partner now accepts the 'artistic' merit in old barns, even the decrepit and dilapidated ones. one thing good with him is he is bold. he drove inside the property, the driveway was planked on both sides by tall evergreens. the lawn as you can see had been mowed, but the structure is long gone. there's so many of this around the farmlands, and even houses, are left to the mercy of the elements to decay, to just die.
while most would imagine chaos in seeing this, i imagine in it there is comfort. if this was a person, it would be so old and feeble, but left on its own to reminisce its accomplishments, its contribution; it had served its purpose and served it well.
this particular ruin i wanted to explore, but partner didn't want me to go any nearer. it might not be so readily discernible, but there are old bales on the second floor of the structure. partner was concerned it just might fall apart while i was near it. a plank of wood actually fell as i was taking photos of this.
Oh, so for partner it's ok for you to wander around abandoned homes that might have psycho people or feral animals living in them but not abandoned barns where you can actually see the things that might harm you? hehe
cool shot summerfield, the mowed lawn is a bit weird though.
there's something about old, decaying structures that I find so beautiful.
We were in rural area this past weekend with loads of ruined sheds and houses, whole areas where people used to live and work but no longer do. It's sad, beautiful and inevitable.
It does look like a wind and a prayer are holding it together, see he does have an artistic side coming out;0)
Lovely rustic shot, you know I like barns
This morning I used my iPod to look back at your albums; I could go cross-eyed trying to figure out what challenges you've already met. So, if it seems the first challenge I give you is something you've done. I will give you an alternate. Primary challenge: do a diptych telling a before and after story. Alternate: try to do two of the Just-4-August words for what's remaining of this week (again apologies for the lateness of this). I hope you have fun with one or the other. Thanks for the challenge you've given me!
well, old friend....you knew THIS would catch my eye! nice work...but it definitely IS good to have a partner of sound mind with you, i guess. It doesn't look safe - - because of the actual structure, but maybe more because the mowed grass indicates someone is "watching" the property - - possibly with a shotgun.....lol (well, i guess it's not really something to lol about....) lol
