get pushed #162 - strong patterns by summerfield

get pushed #162 - strong patterns

my get-pushed challenge this week from vera @vera365 is "to take a photo that combines two strong patterns to create one composition."

i think i understood it correctly. i don't know what this signifies apart from the fact that i am always drawn to that radiator in the living room. whenever there's a new camera, the first thing i take a picture of is the radiator.

-o0o-
on sunday, i passed by a fundraiser at this obscure mall northeast of us. there was a contest where they were asking for the correct terms of things. for each correct answer they assigned points and you save enough points to get to the next round. my first rounder points were 50 for a group of flamingos and 50 for the baby hare. second rounder points was 80 for the dating of tree rings. the third and final round was 200 points for the protective covering of a dagger. for the record, i didn't know about that fundraiser nor did i plan on going to that part of the city either. the emcee was quite beside himself because i gave my answers without a scintilla of hesitation. other people who joined were consulting their friends who were holding cellphones, which i thought was outright cheating, and still could not come up with the right answers or not quick enough. one protested that i am old so naturally it is a given i am more knowledgeable than others. "crap" screamed one couple who were in the audience and who were obviously impressed. and this not knowing what the prize was. i thought it would just be a $50 gift card at the most. i was quite surprised when they handed me a box. it was a canon powershot SX60HS. i think it's a new powershot model and i'd peg the price to be about $300 probably. i don't know if i will keep it.

and to satisfy your curiosity, the answers are stand, leveret, dendrochronology and scabbard. i commended the organizers that the questions were very educational and clever, but quite difficult for a mall-type contest. they said the purpose was to stretch it out throughout the day, but they had been there since mid-morning and only another older lady was able to answer a question correctly. to show my appreciation and support of the cause, i made a $30 donation. i was going to donate back the camera but i thought i won it fair and square.

winner - get pushed #162
@vera365 - is this what you're looking for? let me know as i have another idea in my head. thank you.

wowza! getting this on popular page albeit for just a few hours was quite a surprise. thank you nancy, susan, marta and amyj for your very generous favs.

@homeschoolmom - thank you, lisa.

@kwind - thank you, kim.

@365projectlinda - thank you, lindy.

@salza - thank you, sally.

@hopess13 - pretty minds think alike? :-D thank you, rachel.

@grammyn - thank you, katy. the only thing that appeals to me with that camera is the 65x zoom. i could try it on the moon tonight, but we have hazy skies.

@jocasta - that i learned four years ago when i had to go to the zoo to fulfill a get-pushed challenge. things we learn on 365! thank you, jo.

@susanalena - thank you, susan.

@kymmisue - thank you, kimberly. i agree, kinda trippy. when i move the mouse wheel a quick up and down, the circles swirl! try it. :-)

@taffy - thank you, taffy.

@summerfield That is the first thing I used the zoom on and got this the very first time http://365project.org/grammyn/themes-and-comp/2011-12-01 and it is SOOC

@grammyn - very inspiring. i bought 300mm lenses for both cameras and i never even thought of using them for shooting the moon until last week when i saw a shot from one of the ladies around here. but i wasn't happy with my result. let's see if this will make me happy tonight. but the moon's not rising until 10. i'm wanting to go to bed early! :-D

@summerfield Hmm i seem to remember someone giving me a hard time about going to bed early ! ;~} Something about "beauty" sleep?! If you were in alabama it is already up there!
September 2nd, 2015
@grammyn - so tempted to go to the beach and watch the moon rise from the lake water. but i will wait for a few more weeks and maybe watch it somewhere else. i checked and it says the moon is rising at 9:43 and by the time it's high enough in the sky, it might be 10:30. i might do it from the side of the building or perhaps not. :-D

DON'T GET RID OF IT!!! You will now be able to take all those moon shots you want!! Mine is the SX50HS so yours will do the job just fine! ISO 200 AV setting, daylight. Now go get it!

fav on the shot!

@olivetreeann - i didn't realize your new camera was this model. well, i just checked the sky and there's no moon because it's thick with haze! dagnabits!

the waning moon showed up. gotta learn how to set the camera, couldn't find the selftimer. not used to p&s anymore. got a few decent shots, not happy with them but much better than the expensive lens. hahaha! Will post tomorrow. thanks, ann.

Nice composition

@summerfield I use my tripod- no timer. I set the AWB (I think that's what it's called) to daylight (the moon is reflecting the sun), ISO to 200 and put it on the AV setting. You can + or - a little if you want but most of the time I just shoot it with those settings. To have a little fun with the color you can switch the lighting around- set it at tungsten or fluorescent and you'll get a soft blue or yellow. But I find I don't need the timer if I'm using the tripod. The stabilizer in the camera works really well. And don't worry about missing the full moon- it's just as fun to shoot the other stages too.

Congrats and this is a beautiful shot.

Sorry I haven't reacted earlier - just getting back to normal after a long travel break. I very much like this - strong and bold, and stylish at the same time. And the patterns, yet different, work together really well. I still have to work on my challenge!!!!

Cool combination

Love your composition, and SO impressed with your erudition!! You are one amazing woman, and yes, you won the camera fair and square! That's actually a really good camera, and one I have been coveting, except I am looking at the Nikon model. I am not sure I would call it bridge, but it is a superzoom!! Good job!!
