an icy mix

the philippines have a unique food culture, actually derived from the malays, indians, chinese and spanish starting from the olden days. one of their pride dishes, a dessert actually, is halo-halo. its direct translation is "mix-mix" or "stir-stir".

traditionally, halo-halo consists of a melange of sweets - beans, chickpeas, young coconut meat, pineapple jelly, palm fruit, leche flan (akin to crème brûlée) and ube, a purple tuber that's almost similar to taro root. in a tall glass, these are then topped with shaved ice and served with milk, with more leche flan and ube. these days, the ube is replaced by ube ice cream. one of the best desserts ever!

i had lunch with my sister-in-law and her nephew and niece and i intentionally ordered halo-halo for today's shot. dessert of champions, i should say, although this is what the restaurant called the "junior size". i did have the regular size last weekend, i just forgot to take a photo. :-P

for the 52-week challenge; this week we are photographing candies or sweets.
That sounds like a meal in a glass! Love the colour of the ube ice cream.

I'll take the cube...looks the most sinful. Also, the color outdoes the B&W for me.

I like the stain. where are you going to get ube to keep your promise. so happy that you are willing to order sweets in the name of photography. (but seriously, I'd like to eat some)
