October rainbow challenge - Week 1: Natural World - Saturday: Pink
Led a walk today for my walking group - part of the 33 Boroughs series - 33 walks in each of the London boroughs. Of course I chose to do Waltham Forest.
Dave and I got out of the house on time to catch the bus up to the meet-up at Chingford station, but were horribly delayed because of a big accident outside the old dog stadium as the bus did an enormous detour round the north circular. Only ended up being about 5 mins late so that was OK.
Luckily for me, as it's always harder to manager large groups, only three people were waiting at Chingford station, Anna F, Derek and Sally - which made 5 of us in all, quite a nice number.
Started off with a look round the View, the new visitor centre next to the Queen Elizabeth Hunting Lodge - then basically headed south through remnants of Epping Forest (these were remnants themselves of the old huge Waltham Forest). Very muddy underfoot after yesterday's deluge but gorgeously sunny - you could actually see steam coming off the dead tree branches lying in the sun.
Ended up in Walthamstow village for a look round the quaint historic bits and a veggie burger in the Nag's Head. Then down to look at the splendid town hall and on to Lloyd Park and the William Morris Gallery for a quick look round, a Victoria sponge in the tea room and a nose around the shop - where I bought myself a Morris umbrella. All looking very nice in there and very busy which is excellent news.
