"american graffiti"
they gawked shamelessly at this car. they photographed and posed by it, with it. men drooled as they snapped photos of this big baby with their cellphones and iPhones.
the driver, a middle-aged man in gaudy bright pink shirt, buttons opened to reveal a thick gold necklace with a large decal of some kind resting on his hairy chest, a small loop earring in his left ear, dark brown cowboy hat, docks bermuda shorts; he held a large unlit cigar in one hand, the gleaming car key in the other. with him was his woman, ordinary looking, a sheath frock of dull coloured prints, hair in pony tail held by an elastic. she wasn't pretty or anything, but he held her elbow like a delicate figurine, helped her to a chair at the patio of the bistro, where they had a discreet but vantage view of the gawkers.
i wasn't interested in a full view of the car. i photographed the decal, a chrysler 3000, the lights, the door handle, the leather seats, the hubcup of the tires.
'hey, kid!' he called. 'you like cars?'
i looked at him. his woman was smiling. 'did you just call me kid?' he must've been surprised to realize i wasn't a 'kid'. 'no,' i said, ' i don't like cars.'
'so why do you take all sorts of photos of my car?'
'because it's there.'

@karenann - thank you, karenann. partner said two men were taking pictures of me while i was taking shots at this car. a woman told him, she's very pliable! hahahaha! it was probably when i was shooting at the tires as i was really down low, my ankles bent so my knees wouldn't touch the ground. 365ers would do anything for a photo opp!
@cscecil - thank you, CS. it's amazing this shot was really dark because the car was shaded by the trees, and the sun being so bright, but this framing (cinema i think it's called) makes everything seem awashed with light.
