they say nobody lived here anymore. the inhabitants left in a haste when one night, in the dead of winter, a shot was heard, a scream tore through the stillness. when the police came the next morning the house had been abandoned, there was blood but no body was ever found. no one was ever reported missing. the family who occupied it was never heard from.
sometimes, people who nosed around would hear voices coming from inside, or a horrible moaning as if coming from under the earth; ghostly figures had been seen through the broken windows.
i walked around once, took pictures of the dilapidated back balcony, the banisters breaking down at the touch merely by the wind. i thought i heard some movement, but it could be the squirrels or some sort of small animals, panicking at the sight of humans. i saw a stuffed cabbage patch doll, lying down a broken step, half buried in mud and grass, its lips still in a smile despite its condition. i leaned down and zoomed in on its dirty face. and that's when i heard the cocking of a rifle, the clicking of the trigger, and the exploding sound before i saw that bullet hit my face.
Awww, I was hoping that you heard the sound but saw no one and ran for your life. Sad looking house does have the right look for a ghost story. I wonder how quickly that could turn around if someone gave it the TLC is deserves. Oh well, till then it's fuel for the imagination. Nice shot.
