Token Women are a ceilidh band that go way back and I've followed them from almost the beginning. They originally came together as a band featuring musicians who were sole women in otherwise male bands - hence the name. They had been booked to play at the festival but unfortunately two of their number are currently undergoing treatment for cancer and couldn't make it. So they turned it into a 'friends of' event and invited loads of brilliant women musicians to play with them (as well as the odd token man!).
The Airbnb bed turned out to be not as bad as I'd expected, quite comfortable, and I slept in late. P brought back bread and croissants for breakfast. Went to the Ham to catch 2 numbers from the excellent English Fiddle Ensemble, and on to a good lindy hop workshop, teaching the basics with Hannah More and Chris W. Lunch in the Radway - cheese salad roll - and a play before trying Saul Rose's advanced melodeon where we worked on the Plane Tree.
Home to change and pick up my dance shoes for the friends of Token Women ceilidh. Danced most dances despite my dodgy knees and also got rather emotional not just because of the absent members but just remembering old times. Knees very sore after.
