Olympic rings on Tower Bridge by boxplayer

Olympic rings on Tower Bridge

Well I did manage to put up an Olympic-themed picture for every day of those lovely two weeks, even if one or two were a touch tenuous ... I'm a little bereft now.

Juliette panicked me last night when she mentioned in her gorgeous photo of the bridge yesterday http://365project.org/sparkle/365/2012-08-12 that the rings will be coming down soon so I dashed there after work tonight and luckily they were still there.

Felt terrible this morning - really queasy and headachey - a hangover I think from being drunk on OIympic fever. Watched the closing ceremony right to the end, so no wonder I wasn't feeling too good. But I think I got a bit overwrought like a small child, weeping idiotically through much of it and especially when the torch was extinguished. In any other time or place, I would have dismissed last night as a load of cheesy nonsense, but nothing was going to dampen the whole thing for me. And there were, finally, morris dancers! Even if they were relegated to the comedy slot together with the skating nuns, the kilted bagpipers and Welsh people in funny hats.

And also, though a lot of the music wasn't really my cup of tea, I did think, there are few other countries (excepting America) that could fill a whole show like that with their own music, and have people from all over the world not only dance happily in recognition, but sing along with the words.

We won't however mention the Boris dance thing.

How was it for you? http://365project.org/boxplayer/extras/2012-08-13

Missed Boris dancing - must YouTube! The opening set was beautiful and the dead people were brilliant. Some of the rest I think may e you needed to be drunk for!

I think I'd already come down with a bump because the Brian May solo was just too much for me. I cheered up when Seu Jorge came on tough - and it turns out that I knew two people in those big drum costumes. How did they wangle a gig at the closing ceremony??? The only one time I've ever wished I lived in London.

I also watched to the very bitter end & agree with all you say specially re the music which wasn't my cup of tea mostly. I did like Ed Sheeran & ''Look on the bright side'' & John Lennon, Take That & surprisingly I liked Jesse J this time too. I thought the models were a waste of time & weren't fit to lick the feet of the Olympians but it's all celebratory culture now.

Haha that's a coincidence- I have just used the word bereft and olympics in the same sentence in a comment too. Wouldnt have thought that possible three weeks ago.!

Completely agree about the closing ceremony - especially the boris thing!

@happypat Agree with what you say about the models!
